17s Invitational Team, 2012

Ladies:

This is great that you have taken the initiative to get the team together.  Having fun, playing together, and learning great volleyball is an excellent goal to have.  A combination of playing against juniors, playing plenty of matches, and adding a little practice here and there should give you all exactly the experience that you're hoping for this year.  Based on your feedback and your wants for the upcoming season, the following plan seems well tailored to give you the most fun imaginable at a surprisingly low cost (we hope that you'll agree).

Please 'read more' for the informational summary for your 2011-12 junior volleyball team.  Costs have been detailed in case you all agree (even later) that you'd like to do more or less of anything volleyball related...  It's all about being flexible and having fun :) !

  • Five practices (three in January, two or more scheduled as needed throughout the season)
    • Practices will be at most 3.0 hours each, Sunday afternoons
    • Practice budget for the team is $33/hr x 15 hours ($500)
  • Two (or more) TVP tournaments (learn more at www.volleyproject.com)
    • These tournaments are very flexible -- your coach is even able to join you on the court
    • If there is interest, more tournaments can be added for $126 each (you pay at the tournament so it is easy to budget)
    • Cost for the two included tournaments is $126 x 2 ($252 total)
  • OVR membership
    • $60 per athlete
  • Five (or more) OVR junior tournaments
    • Four regular season x $175 ($700)
    • One OVR championship x $235
    • Often, tournament directors will often free spots to avoid cancelling a tournament.  It is possible we can schedule more for free!
  • Akron Rec Bureau women's league, Tuesday nights
    • Runs for roughly 12 weeks, January through March
    • Cost is $230 for the team
    • Again, informal.  Subs are quite flexible.
  • Coach's Fee ($600)
    • Lindsay Spresser is going to be a great fit for this team
    • Plays every position
    • Excellent personality
    • Incredible volleyball knowledge
    • Full résumé will follow

These total are based on EIGHT participants.  For OVR purposes, they need to be a junior or younger in high school.  Seniors born after 9/1/1994 are also eligible.

Practice $500 + TVP $252 + Membership $480 + Regional $700 + Championship $235 + League $230 + Coach $600 + Uniforms & Misc $400 = $3397 / 8 = ~ $425 per athlete

Please note, this cost structure is based on 8 players.  As I understand it, there are 7 committed at this point.  If there are only 7, the costs will change a little (but not much).  We highly recommend that 8th athlete before the season begins.

Please also note, our most successful team to date had exactly the same idea as you all have.  They played great volleyball together -- as friends.  It is imperative, for the sake of your friends, that you stick to this plan.  Kathy has taken on the role of 'team liason' at this point and it is very important that if anyone has any concerns or apprehension, it needs to be voiced now (again, for the safety of the 6 or 7 athletes -- this formula is contingent on you all being fully committed).

With that said, we are going to compose an email soon with the formal invitation to play.  From there, it is recommended that you complete the player contract soon (you have up to 10 days maximum -- but please, save your teammates the stress and fill it out right away).

Thank you!  We're so looking forward to a great season for you all!
